Innovative
technology and excellent workmanship

The Master Edition SA 8.3 Lite relies on proven concepts from the Ovation line, combined with the latest technology. The 1000 VA toroidal transformer and two separate power supplies ensure stable and lossless power supply for the output stages and the processor unit. Large energy stores with 136,000 μF capacitors per channel allow impressive pulse peaks of over 450 watts at 8 Ω or 900 watts at 4 Ω. With XLR and cinch inputs, the power amplifier offers flexible connection options for various sources.

The high-quality aluminum housing, available in silver or black, optionally with chrome-plated CELLINI front, underlines the timeless elegance of the design. The delivery comes in a sturdy AVM flight case, which additionally emphasizes the quality and longevity of the amplifier. Baden Sound Art: AVM’s Masterpiece of Amplifier Technology


„What an amplifier! Forgive my spontaneous outburst of emotion, but the sight of the top-end amplifier SA 8.3 from the esteemed house of AVM inevitably leads to such feelings. A colleague’s attempt to lift it only adds to my grin. And the quick glance under the hood does not help; it suddenly gives me goosebumps, at least for me. The already legendary and sound-defining AVM tube section serves as the entrance to the “super” amplifier. This sound-enhancing jewel, which glows invitingly through a corresponding window in the case lid, provides just the right touch of charisma and brilliance that can make a particular composition and an excellent device from Malsch truly perfect. Despite its colossal nature, AVM manages to make this piece of amplification, which manifests itself in a chrome luxury version this time, appear almost compact. It remains unfazed; even the highest power peaks are displayed unperturbed by a blue measuring device. The power amplifier is hard to surpass in aesthetics. Visually and massively, it is indeed a block, but compared to other amplifiers in the STEREO listening room, it appears remarkably beautifully compact. The sound image is enormous and three-dimensional, physically shaking the publishing house to its very foundations. An experience!“

The Magic of Tubes: AVM’s Ovation Series Sets New Standards in High-End Audio


„The new technology platform offers features such as support for the increasingly popular Roon Server and now also masters HiRes streaming. Users of online streaming services can look forward to high-resolution access to Spotify Connect, Highresaudio, Qobuz, and Tidal. Apple AirPlay2 is also available, and the long-awaited multiroom functionality comes with Control Over IP and Control-4 integration. For those who feel excited about future technology after this list of useful features, there is good news: older Ovation preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, and all-in-one devices can be upgraded with the new X-Stream Engine for a price of around 2000 euros. This modular design approach by AVM pays off. The delivery in a flight case proves beneficial, as the owner must send their device to AVM’s factory in Malsch. There, it is completely disassembled, receives a new mainboard with an improved power supply and a more powerful CPU, before being reassembled. The combination of hardware and software updates not only enhances technical capabilities but also results in a significantly more contemporary handling. In this regard, the previous RC S app, despite numerous updates over the past 10 years, had become somewhat outdated in terms of look and functionality. The hardware of the streaming module was also fully utilized. As for the rest of the preamplifier, the high standard of the Ovation 8.2 applies. This means we are dealing with an extremely delicate hybrid construction. While the smaller brother SD 6.3 is entirely based on transistor technology, AVM indulges in the SD 8.3 with a tube stage directly behind the digital section, which adds flair and a touch of warmth to the preamplifier. AVM has a custom-made double triode, inspired by the ECC83 or, as the Americans say, 12AX7, manufactured in the Czech Republic. Its purpose, as owner Udo Besser candidly admits, is to add a touch of magic to the sound rather than to take on any amplifying tasks. The fact that the antiquated tube technology reaches its limits at 35 kHz does not contradict AVM’s commitment to HiRes audio with an ESSES9038Q2M-Sabre-DAC, capable of 32 bit/384 kHz or DSD128. For those who see it differently, the Malsch team still offers the entirely transistor-based SD 6.3. Besser shares the following backstory: During a visit to the US importer, he was told, “Udo, why not do something with tubes?” The request must have been so convincing that Besser, even from the USA, devised a concrete plan with company founder Günther Mania. They found the right tube experts, who immediately presented 24 prototypes based on the sound specifications. At this point, the project nearly faltered because technician Mania wanted to skip the listening test, as he could not measure any differences, thus questioning the project. However, Besser enlightened him otherwise. In a blind test, both took notes as they listened to the two dozen variants and arrived at the same conclusion independently. Nevertheless, AVM did not succumb to esoteric experiments. Behind the tubes, there is still a buffer stage with transistor technology to prevent the tube array from burning out in case of a short circuit. Our obvious question has already been anticipated by Besser: How long do the two Glimmer Twins last? The answer is reassuring: With 20,000 “play hours,” these fun creators, whose official task is to add a pinch of well-tempered, good-natured distortion, should outlast their owner.“
